Diocesan Convention is the annual business meeting of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark and acts as the chief legislative body of the Diocese. Last weekend, the 149th Annual Diocesan Convention was held at the Hilton Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ. Hughes will serve as celebrant and the Rev. Absalom Jones, the first person of African descent ordained a deacon and priest in the Episcopal Church, in an in-person and online service. The Union of Black Episcopalians Diocese of Newark Chapter will celebrate the life and ministry of the Rev. She also serves as Assistant Vice President of Community Engagement at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, where she engages with over 170 partners and leads NJPAC’s community programs including Standing in Solidarity, Books on the Move, Dance in the Community, the Newark Parks Project and Neighborhood Programming Hubs.
